Commedia
Commedia Dell’Arte is a form of masked physical comedy that originated in the Italian Renaissance. It punches up at power and revels in the ridiculous. The original Looney Tunes and romantic comedy. It predates Shakespeare and directly ‘inspired’ works like The Comedy of Errors and The Taming of the Shrew.
Satirical, subversive, and delightfully unhinged, Commedia is a living, breathing form where pompous masters are outwitted by their clever servants and foolish lovers.
Traditionally performed outdoors — in marketplaces, streets, and festivals — Commedia is theatre by the people, for the people. It thrives on audience interaction, spontaneity, and the energy of shared space. This is theatre rooted in the body. Where movement comes first, and character, comedy, and chaos emerge from physicality.
You don’t need experience, flexibility, or finesse just come with a head empty, heart open, and a willingness to try.
