Weaverville Public Library

Bring whatever book you're already in the middle of, and journey to the park wherever the light's good and read together for an hour, quiet, side by side, a grandmother and a teenager and a kid with a picture book all turning pages in the same patch of grass. Then we discuss what moved us

About the event

Bring whatever book you're in the middle of, or come a few minutes early and check one out from the library. We meet at the Weaverville Library just before ten and walk over to the Main Street Nature Park together. Once we're there, we say a quick sentence about what we're reading, find a spot under the trees or on a bench, and read quietly together for an hour. Books only — no screens, no phones, just the page in front of you and the park around you.

After the hour, we come back together and talk about what lit up in what we read. Not a book report, not a discussion guide, just whatever caught you. You don't need to have finished anything or be reading anything impressive. Whatever's in your bag is the right book.

All ages welcome — kids, grandparents, teenagers, everybody reads. Bring a chair if…

Who we Are

The Greening is a living network, a model for building real community through conscious play and inner coherence.  Not another online thing that makes you feel temporarily connected while you sit alone.  This is a think you do with your actual hands, voice, and whole emerging self.

It's been running for 15 years.  Hurricane Helene was the stress test.  The communities didn't just hold, they got stronger.  We're currently focusing on building the relational infrastructure which makes everything else possible.

Let's remember, together, that we already know how to do this.
